Located 230 km from Ho Chi Minh city, Con Dao has
more than 20 beautiful beaches and is part of an
archipelago of 14 islets. A national park, with
islands covered in forest and almond trees, it was
originally it was used by the French to
incarcerate revolutionary prisoners. Offshore,
it's not unusual to see dolphins jumping and
racing after boats. In recent years tourist
facilities have been added along with charming
narrow roads so that visitors can enjoy the
island's tranquility.
Vung Tau is located on the coast 125km south-east
of Ho Chi Minh City and has become a favourite
weekend destination for residents of Vietnam's
largest city. There are a few pagodas around Vung
Tau and you can hike up the two mountains on the
nearby peninsula, but Vung Tau is primarily a
party town with plenty of cafes, bars, restaurants
and a few discos.
